Malone's Candy Company, LLC

Malone's Candy Company, LLC has been in business for over 100 years.  It is a family owned company that has been handed down over the years making sure never to change the original cream based taffy recipe.  The taffy company travels throughout the mid west and parts of the south making appearances at 21 local county fairs and festivals.  They round out their traveling season with two state fairs in the south.  In the spring, all of the equipment and supplies are loaded up and the taffy family heads north to start their traveling season. 

The original taffy company was owned by the Malone's brothers.  Over time they went their separate ways and the company divided into three parts.  One part went to Bud Long.  Bud along with his wife Frances, owned and operated the taffy company.  Bud and Frances did not have any children, so when Bud passed away in 1963, he left 50% of the company to his wife Frances and 50% to Mike Sr.  Mike Sr. had worked for Bud since 1951 at the young age of 17.  Frances passed away in 1966 leaving the other 50% to Mike Sr. and Vera.  At that time, the company was based out of southern Illinois.  Over time the State Fair of Mississippi grew into a booming event and so Mike Sr. and Vera decided it was time to make some changes.  They picked up from the life they knew and moved their family and the company to Jackson, Mississippi in 1971.  At the time, their children, Gina age 4 years and Mike age 2 years, were ready for anything!  Mike Sr. and Vera worked hard to build up the taffy company to where it is today.  In January of 2003, the taffy business lost a good man.  Mike Sr. could always be spotted on the corner of the taffy booth with a huge smile on his face... unless it was raining!  Mike Sr. and Vera owned the company from 1966 until 2004 when Vera decided to hang up her traveling shoes! 

At that time Mike Jr. became a fourth generation taffy maker.  He is in his sixth season as full time owner and operator.  He learned from the BEST!  Mike Jr. was raised in the family business along with his sister Gina. 

Mike, Jr. is following in some "BIG" footsteps.  He is continuing on in the family business just the way his parents did.  Mike, Jr. has three children, Mick, Madelyn, and Colten.  They are adjusting to their fathers routine very nicely.  Mick was born in Geneseo, Illinois on June 28th, 2001 right in the middle of the season.  He worked at his first fair when he was three weeks old in Aledo, Illinois.  Mick is growing up into a little man and loves to get behind the counter and sell taffy!  He still needs a little boost, so he jumps up on a taffy barrel to reach the customers.  Mick knows the difference between work and school.   He loves seeing his friends and telling them all about his adventures on the road.  Madelyn, or as her brother calls her "Mady" is another fair baby!  She decided to make her entrance into the world in the middle of the Mississippi State Fair in Jackson, Mississippi.  Madelyn was born on October 10th, 2006.  She was busy during the fair season this year making friends and smiling at all the passers by!   Colten, unlike his big brother and sister, held out on being born until the tail end of the season.  He was born on November 6, 2008.  He is a wonderful addition to the family and his brother and sister just can't get enough of him.  Colten gets a whole lot of attention from them.  Both Mick and Madelyn love to play with Colten and make him smile and laugh!
